Israeli President Zalman Shazar celebrates his eighty-third birthday by putting on tefillin and being called up to the Torah in the Chabad-Lubavitch Tzemach Tzedek synagogue in the Old City of Jerusalem. Shazar had made it a point to celebrate his birthday in this fashion since 1967, when the Old City was miraculously liberated by Israeli forces.
